Final Club Assembly for RY 1998/99.

The final Club Assembly on Friday 25 Jun 99 at Oriental Palace Chinese Restaurant, Sun Complex at 6:00 pm was attended by some 30 Pudu Rotarians. A happy Dato Muslim reported to the Assembly what was achieved during his year, which was a tough year, due to the economic downturn. Nevertheless. the Club managed to maintain to do well with several projects/activities winning awards, including fund raising awards (see below.) Memebership gain was nett two with seven new members and five resignations/transfers. Best of all, the Board had a surplus of some RM 20,000 due to success of obtaining donations for project funding and also high interest rate on deposit accounts in three quarters of 1998.

Soon after a sumputous Chinese dinner, PE Rosemarie Wee, the Incoming President presented her Board's proposed projects and budget for RY 1999/2000. Please see Calendar of Events 1999/2000 for details.

District 3300 honours PE Carlo Ravizza's Board members.

Soon after the RI Convention in Singapore, PE Carlo Ravizza took his Board members for an Incoming Board meeting at Kuala Lumpur. They took a coach trip from Singapore and did some sight-seeing in Melaka, our historic town, before coming to Kuala Lumpur. In Kuala Lumpur, PE Carlo had an audience with His Majesty Sultan Sallehuddin, our King (a former Rotarian) on Monday 21 Jun. The next day, he and his Board members and their spouses were feted to a dinner at the Shangri-la Hotel where more than 400 Rotarians from the District congregated to meet and dine with them. DG Dr Paul Lee presented each one of them with a typical Malaysian momento, the Royal Selangor Pewter gifts. In turn, PE Carlo Ravizza gave away awards to our successful JE Children Fund raisers (see accompanying story below.)

JE Walkathon.

The Rotary Children's JE Walkathon fund-raising was successfully carried out at the Dataran Merdeka on Sunday, 9 May 99. We walked to Parliament House junction and back (about 6 km). Turnout was not bad, thanks to the good response by Pudu interactors.
RC Pudu was honoured by being among the best fund raisers. Our PE Rosemarie raised the highest amount (RM 22,000) while the Club was runner up by raising RM 41,330. Thre Interact Clubs under sponsorship of Pudu (San Peng, Sri Sentosa and Kuen Cheng) also won prizes.

90th RI Convention .

The 90th RI Convention in Singapore (June 13-16, 1999) is over, and soon enough reports on its success will be announced. Our DG Dr Paul Lee led the District including some 22 Rotarians from RC Pudu. These guys went down to Singapore earlier to attend our sister club fellowship organised RC Singapore West, as well as to attend their installation ceremony and dinner.

Installation Dinner: Saturday 17 Jul 99.

We're now at Shangri-la.

With effect from Monday, 17 May 99, our weekly meetings is held at the Shangri-la Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. It is still a lunch meeting commencing at 12:45 hrs. The Board of Directors decided this at its monthly meeting on 29 Apr 99.

Having been with Holiday Inn on-the-Park for almost 25 years, it was rather sad that we had to move our meeting venue to another location. We had grown accustomed to the hotel itself and the staff in particular. However, we were advised that they were going for a major renovation and the hotel had to close wef 15 May 99.
